Motivate by allowing leaders to lead. Hire yourself.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:41 pm

We have a natural right to make use of our pens as of our tongues, at our peril, risk and hazard.”

 ~ Voltaire….

Todays blog is taken direct from my notepad – I email myself ideas, this one is raw and unedited so you can get an idea of how I think…this was written on the side of the road after listening to a dental assistant who was very well paid talk about how she was leaving the office she was at for not being appreciated.
Made me think of the conversation I have had with dozens of others working at dental offices – its’ rarely about the money. Its’ about the leadership. So here is what I was thinking…how can you motivate others?

I am motivated.

Been paid commission, pay my own expenses most of my life.

Independent business owners know why they need to get out of bed every morning – nobody else is gonna pay your bills! The expenses come whether you are there or not…

How can we help employees get this motivated?

- allow them to perform and if they do reward them. It sets an example.
-my boss might set sales goals for me…that’s his goal. What is my goal? To get rewarded when I help people.  I don’t set a financial goal – it follows when I do the right thing, and I have to be able to do it my way.
-what is your employees goal? what makes them feel rewarded at the end of the day? Most often, its not the money. Seriously. High paid CDA probably not going back to her old boss because her ideas for improvement are taken as sarcasm on management skills.  I know 5 offices that would LOVE to have an employee who cares enough to say something.
-goal wasn’t to get a job that paid 20 bucks an hour, if it was they will not find happiness. Nobody works for money, cause it just doesn’t make you truly happy.  Those working for money will never be happy or truly make the boss happy.
-ownership of the job, I’m not saying control, ownership of the job means respect for the values and understanding the rewards come for those with a passion. Hire the right people.  Wait if you have to. Take control.
- the best person I could possibly hire would be myself. The worst person I could hire would be me because ‘me’ would learn how to be excellent and then do it for myself….then ‘I’ would start again.  Do I want to hire someone with as much ambition as me? You bet!

That’s the cycle of success – get there – fail. Get up again. Fail. Get up again. Fail. Get up again – try something completely different. Fail.  Get up again.

The fun part is always just before you have to get up again.

What is attractive to you?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:14 pm
Attractive = Confident with humility, passionate with sensitivity, wise with an ability to be understood….

….we know people that are attractive to look at. They act like they are hot, and that is so not hot.

…we know people with a passion for what they do.  They have a fire inside that can’t be put out – but they don’t care who gets in the way and they will have what they want at any price.

….we know people that are very intelligent.  They are the people who have the answer for everything, and they never listen.

Its’ a sad waste when these talented people have such huge ego.

They could be so much more attractive.

I wasn’t born pretty and so my passion has been learning to understand other people. Find the good in everyone.  Try to be the best person I can possibly be, and some how leave a mark on this world.

For me – its’ a pleasure to meet you.  I know that every person I meet can teach me something and has a quality and talent that I will admire….that is attractive!

Smile – its’ contagious!

Who tells you that you can’t?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:57 pm

He who moulds the public sentiment makes statues and decisions possible or impossible to make.

Abraham Lincoln

Who sets the limits of what you do everyday?

What inspires you?

Are you everything you know you can be, and ever wanted to be?

When people ask you what you do….what do you tell them?

Sell Dental Supplies? Dentist? Assistant, Hygienist?

Are’t we really so much more?

I started this blog to bring you a daily inspiration, a piece of advice from 28 years in the dental business – and I am ending up inspired in so many ways!  I no longer define myself strictly by the way I get paid – I define myself by the way I live and what I really am becoming….

So many people I know have incredible talent outside of ‘what they do’ – why aren’t they telling people first and foremost they are ‘entrepreneurs’, ‘writers’, ‘bloggers’ that also help people in whatever they do…

I am an writer, entrepreneur who tries to help people become passionate about what they do.  I specialize in building dental practices from birth to re-incarnation, with inspiring moments along the way.

Do you create beautiful smiles?  Are you a confidence builder? Do you have a talent for putting people at ease, making them smile or laugh.  Are you a people person that is excited to find out about your friends every day?

What are your passions in life – and how can you closely integrate this into your life so that every day is an adventure, an experience that you can’t wait to wake up to?

People do it everyday!

Are you Incredible Talent Wasted??

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:24 pm

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used everything you gave me.” ~Erma Bombeck

You know what bugs me?  When other people try to set the rules for me and my life.  Its’ my life, and I am only allowed to live it once.

The reason many of you went into the profession you chose is so you can be independent – set your own rules.  Are you really doing it the way you wanted?  Is your profession everything you wanted it to be?

I’m not telling anyone to go out and be a bad ass of their chosen profession – but what would the world be if we all just lived within the limits others set out for us.

I am feeling particularly inspired today – you will start to see a little more video content in my blog (if I can somehow find some time!)  After watching about a dozen great videos from youtube, I realized something….

So many people I know have talents they are too shy to explore because they are afraid to fail!!!  Afraid what other people might say!!!  Its’ a shame if you waste your talent – because life is too short to not give it your best shot.

Get off the slow train to nowhere, and start living your life!!

The people who inspire me are those who dare to be different.

I will still go back to blogging about the dental stuff – no worries! In between, I hope to throw a few other ideas at you.  I hope you throw a few back my way!

Bringing you….

Smiles!

Simple fixes for everyday problems

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:35 pm

Innovation is NOT the result of rational thought, but the process of bringing the idea to life takes rationial thinkers…

The best ideas are just simple fixes for everyday things…

Saliva Ejectors…Have you tried the new Crosstex #110-7696 White/White Saliva Ejector.  Its’ innovative design offer a unique and patented rounded smooth edge with perfectly placed suction ports.  This Saliva ejector optimizes fluid removal while minimizing trauma to the tissue.

Ok – that was right out of the flyer – in my terms, it won’t grab the tissue when you are sucking out the spit.

Dentapure – two ways to control the water biofilm issue.  City water or bottle water problems are now solved with a product that costs $250 (Cdn) and gets replaced about once a year.  Simple install, problem solved. Let’s get ‘er done!!

Surefil Flow – the bulk fillable flowable composite. Great reviews, including my own territory.  High radiopacity and it fills and self levels – eliminate several steps in placing your posterior composites!

FuturaBond – a very highly rated, very fast technique for bonding.  Self etch on all surfaces, and excellent reviews.  As competitively priced as any bond out there. Almost 50% of my customers have switched….

Vertise Flow – another winner!  A flowable that is self adhesive.  You can imagine the possibilities – check out the bonding strength to dentin and enamel, as well as other substructures! Amazing.

N-Durance – I told the Septodont rep, we don’t need another composite.  But at least if we get another one – it better be good! This one can solve a problem – if you are having trouble with radiopacity – this product shows up on your xrays like a high beam headlight on a starless night!  I like the packagine (20 x .25gm capsules – slightly larger caps mean you get 5 gms in your 20 caps instead of the 4 gm that many manufacturers offer)  The pricing is in the low end, and the intro prices bring this product up on my radar.  Its’ getting excellent reviews – so I am ready to put it on the list even though I haven’t had any of my customers buy yet.

Masks – Crosstex has also introduced a line of masks that answer the question on fit.  They call the masks secure fit, and are available in a variety of ASTM performance.  The Blue #774-0093 offer the highest performance and are competitively priced at $16.99 per box.  A comfortable, tight fitting mask can provide up to a 100x greater reduction in exposure (see Crosstex for studies)

100,000 connections to the Dental Industry.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:08 pm
It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.

Are you still wondering why you should join facebook?

I am an early adopter.  I was one of those guys with $400 monthly bills using AOL when it first came out!

I remember some of the first ‘social groups’ from years ago.  I joined Geocities (1994)! I played for a while – but at $400 a month and you are billed by the minute, I couldn’t afford to spend a lot of time there! This was back in the days when I had no money – and yet I made a priority of paying this bill, it was addictive!

Over the next several years, I joined my Classmates (1995), several icq chat rooms, yahoo and microsoft social chat, etc.  Then along came Myspace (2002?).  Myspace seemed like the best answer to what I was looking for in a personal internet experience. But I couldn’t find anyone else I knew there!

So along comes this Facebook thing (2004) and I sign up.  I didn’t get it at first – very few of my friends were here, and without friends – it was a lonely space.  So I didn’t spend much time here.  Over the next few years however, it kind of caught on!

I soon learned that people didn’t fully understand the idea.  Even today – so many think that they don’t need facebook.  And they may not.  But there is just so much good to be had here! I won’t go into a lot of other detail – I will explain my own findings.

A year and a half ago I started a blog.  In order to spread the word, I started networking via facebook and tweeting.  The blog has had as many as several thousand hits per day! Without the network I formed it would have taken much more than a few months to get this kind of notice.

More importantly – I have been able to meet and start to form relationships with industry leaders.  I recently formed a group of about 20 leaders that directly consult with approximately 100,000 Dentists daily.

20 people that 100,000 people follow! That is the power of social networks!

There are already a lot of great reasons to stay connected on facebook – and its’ just that…staying connected.  Its’ why 500 million people worldwide are using the service.

And its’ not just to tell people what they are making for supper tonight.  If you aren’t understanding this social media revolution yet – I really hope you will take some time to better educate yourself.

You can search and find the answer you are looking for without joining – go ahead and find every reason to NOT be connected.  The internet allows us to prove anything we want.  There are thousands of articles and people who tell you every reason to not join Facebook…privacy, security, people on facebook are pathetic and have nothing interesting to say, there is no value…you can prove every one of these points if you are determined.

You can also prove that you can eat grapefruit seeds to cure cancer if you really want to……http://chicagoindiepress.com/652/health/cancer-survivor-grapefruit-cured/  – and I am not making fun here. I am just saying….

Why not just join – adjust your security so nobody knows you are there – and then observe for yourself.  Make your own determination by trying before you buy.

This Rant brought to you by a fellow with 100,000 connections to the dental industry….

Is your business ready for a revolution in media?

Other people go to bed with their wives and lovers; I with my ideas…..

~Warren

Social media and mobile computing are
going to make technology a part of everyday life….and fast!

The tablet computer and high speed
Internet have brought simplicity to the masses.
Smart phones are giving us incredible abilities everywhere we go…and
its getting easier, smarter and delivering results we all want.

Any service, any product, researched,
rated and shared at every moment of every day.
Only the truly good will stand a chance of being rewarded.  Fraud and phonies and those overpriced and
under serviced will soon face the wrath of a very intelligent consumer….that
would be you….but which side of the fence are you really on?  Are you the intelligent consumer, or the
intelligent marketer that will create the value you would demand from those you
patronize?

We will no long be allowed to think
everything we want to buy is too expensive, or everything we have to sell is
too cheap…the world will set the price via social platforms.  Excellent service will be rewarded and shared
within social circles…it will be the power of a network.

I believe this is a world where
technology will become a part of our everyday life…

Walk into a store, get rewarded. Get
a customized flyer. (check out patented solutions by Poynt Poynt!) Compare prices and services in the area instantly with full
ratings from friends and create a custom experience form your taste by genius
recommendations from your social search network.

Technology will be developed so that
those who are not on board will buy in….like the way my wife now hogs my iPad
every night! I have to get her one – of course because of technology, I already
know it will be worth waiting for the newer version that will be less expensive
and have all the latest features!

Technology will make life a
customizable experience.  The whenever we
want (mobile) wherever we want (wifi and cellular data), whomever (search
anything) why (our personal benefit)…

…. what are you doing to help bring
your business into this new marketing age?

Better go grab those running shoes,
because there are a ton of young and hungry entrepreneurs looking to grab a
share of your business!!!

Get on my bus and grab a….

One app, all devices

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:40 pm

Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.

Can you
write an app once that will work on any?

It sucks when I find a great app like ‘bump’ for my iphone that I can’t use on my blackberry. It made me start doing some research….can you write an app that will work on any device? The fact is that Apple, Blackberry, Android, Windows…they all speak different ‘languages’

But…

I still predict the day is coming.

Isn’t
this why the Internet battle continues between web browsers?  We want to be able to do the same thing on
our computers regardless of the language they speak.  It’s the same with mobile devices.

I
predict we will see mobile devices connecting to internet sites that run flash
or widgets.  The flash or widget will
install itself into the browser platform that can be used on all smartphone
devices and give all users the same functionality.

It
won’t matter if you have a Blackberry, an iPhone or an Android – the
apps will run via the website you access, but even better – work offline.

The future of Internet.

I
think Wifi will be a major growth industry, and that engineers will keep
shrinking file sizes to optimize running large files on small networks.  Who ever thought you would be able to stream
video and watch live tv and movies via a cellular phone? This is the revolution of mobile connectivity.

Watch
what happens with Verizons 4G/LTE network in the US (see how fast it is in Sweden, Korea, try not to be jealous!).

This kind of speed will give developers the ability to develop apps that take advantage of high
speed downloads – and thus more interactive Internet ‘widgets’ in real time…

See why ‘flash’ may be last years tech….see why on any device – its’ called html5.

Apps, Ideas and Dental….

I have
a ton of ideas for this stuff….just keep watching this blog!

If you have an idea for an app, contact me – I would be happy to help!

Smile!
