Nobody saw that coming!

To fail is a greater triumph than to never have tried.

~Warren

Take a minute to watch a deaf concert violinist. What is your excuse?

Getting
it done before anyone ever knew it needed to be done.

Most people need to quantify a result before they ever start a
project.  They will waste so much time
trying to find out why something might or might not work that they never get anything
done. Reports and analysis – its’ like a bunch of excuses for not just going out and trying it! Its’ too hard because….it takes too much time…I’m not sure what the result will be so…let’s have another meeting to make sure everyone agrees.

There is a sure sign of a losing idea. If everyone agrees, its’ likely been done before. What fun is that?

Do
you really
HAVE to be paid (mentally and/or physically) before you ever start?  Why not try to give It all your effort, ship
your best product, give your best performance night after night and then adjust results according to what happens. It might fail (at first) – but entrepreneurs KNOW how to make things work. Visionaries KNOW the first round is not going to be the last…

That
takes guts!

The hard part about having is a boss is having to explain what you want to do before you start any project.  But do you really have to? What if you just go out and to it – of course you have to be doing this for the right reasons! But if you are sincerely interested in a GREAT result – then don’t wait for others to tell you how great the idea is.

Just do it.

Adjust along the way – but don’t just sit and talk about what might or might
not happen until you are lulled into a conformist state where nothing happens.

Asking ‘permission’ is an idea killer.

Lack of confidence is an idea killer.

Fear of failure kills would be entrepreneurs.

I
sure liked that idea but…..what if…

You
will never know unless you do it.

Action
speaks louder than words.

If you aren’t thinking for your self…..

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:59 pm

Anyone who doesn’t think for themselves doesn’t think for anyone at all!

~Warren

I
don’t want to be like anyone else you have ever known.

Because
if people aren’t wondering what the hell I am up to, I must NOT be doing
anything worthwhile!

Why
is it we are not born as leaders?  Why
are we ostracized for not fitting in when our parents told us we could be
anything we want
, be anyone we want to be…Why are we so bad if we don’t do it
the way the boss expects, or our friends and parents and loved ones told us we
had to do it?  What if we find a way better
way to get ‘it’ done with the same or even more amazing results?

You
will never know unless you try. And let others talk. And let others smugly tell
you “I told you so“, because that is surely one thing most of society
is really good at – conforming.  Becoming
the status quo.

Failure
IS the only option.  There is no way
someone will ship anything better than what is already out there without
failure.  Its the failure that helps
create thick skin, helps the entrepreneur look even harder when everyone else
is giving up.
Because the harder it is to achieve, the more likely the results will be amazing. Who wants to do something that is hard to do now-a days?

Nothing worth achieving didn’t come without a lot of sweat and heart break.

So go
out and fail along your road to proving them all wrong.  They are only going to remember you for what
you did right, or if you quit…and it’s our obligation to each other and all of mankind to do
our very best.

I’m
excited for you!

Smile!

The last one ever picked…

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:29 pm

True independence and freedom can exist only in doing what’s right.

~Bringham Young

I was
never picked first, ever.

Reject the tyranny of being picked,
pick yourself.

Do not wait to be chosen , the choice
is yours.

Be the creator of your chosen
destiny, not chosen to create

Oprah is likely not looking for you
to make you the next biggest thing.

Don’t you want to be the guy who
owns the ball team, runs the show, calls the shots? There is only one way to
get to that position!

You have to be the boss.

If you are doing something that has a
good chance of failing, you are on to something…because the harder it is and
the more likely it is to fail, the less chances that any average person will
undertake the project! Believe in it, get it done. Find a way to make the
impossible possible
and you will prosper.

I FAILED English class on purpose!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:51 pm

There are losses that can be greater than wins…

~Warren

In Grade
12, Mr Slovac was my English teacher for the second term of a class I HAD to pass in order to graduate.

First
term English was truly boring for me, but I loved the hot teacher and I at least
got a passing grade.  But Mr Slovac
taught a class that seemed to be more about conformity than about literature!

This
is the class in which we read Orson Wells 1984, and we were taught about
existentialism. What a great f*&#*ng book to teach to kids about to graduate – that we are doomed to fail and a life of unhappiness. This really pissed me off, and made me even more determined to do English class on my own terms!

You need to know something….I
LOVED the books, but hated having to color in between the lines.
I did not see the value this brought to my life. At the time I was reading these stupid books on the ultimate failure of mankind – I was also reading books that should be the mandatory curriculum for high school kids….

“How to win friends and Influence people by Dale Carnegie”

“Og Mandino – The greatest salesman in the world”

“Think and grow rich by Napolean Hill”

Pretty hard to jump from a book that has a positive outlook on life to a book like Farenheit 451 in which all books are banned so people don’t think ‘different’ or question authority.

OMG!!! Perfect things to teach kids!!

So, being
the non conformist – I wrote several excellent essays about the books and
projects we were offered.  I always
completed the tasks, but on my own terms.
I impressed my teacher…but failed the class. I spoke about how useless these books were – and why we needed to teach books like Think and Grow rich instead of teaching kids how to fail and how to comply.

I was VERY outspoken in class! I actually won an award for Englishand I failed it! There were
many heated debates about why we had to conform.  I always did it the way I wanted.  And to prove the point,  put in a lot of extra effort in delivering
some pretty amazing essays and projects.
There were several papers I recieved an “A or A++” but I got an “F” because it wasn’t relevant to the stupid subject they were teaching.

I actually just got inspired to pull out my high school year book! I found the “Awards day” recipient list, and I was going to scan it to show you my name under “English” – an award I got for my amazing speeches. I was given the award despite FAILING the class! I got a standing ovation! That moment defines a lot of what has happened in my life ever since…

Kind of funny thing. A couple of awards later was the award for “Salesman of the year”. I think I should have won that one too! Know why??

Because DESPITE my non conformity in English class and NEVER completing an assignment (at least in the way the teacher wanted). I still got a passing grade! I convinced my teacher that I deserved to pass English. I sat with him personally and discussed the books we had been assigned, and I showed him that I understood what he was after. Just that I refuse to go to that bitter, negative space that was a part of the curriculum.

I told him if he wanted to fail me – it was his prerogative. It would be sad that a very qualified and hard working student like myself would be punished for thinking outside the box.

My mark was 60% after the final exam (which I aced).

To this day, I question authority. Where would the world be if everyone just followed all the rules.

The only limit to my success in life will be myself.

What the hell is professional anyways?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:23 pm

Believe passionately in what you do, and never knowingly compromise your standards and values. Act like a true professional, aiming for true excellence, and the money will follow….

Have you ever been told you are not acting professionally?

WTH
is professional?

Do you get
things done?  Have you ever created success, results and winning situations?

Do you need to wear a tie to be professional?

Is a professional allowed to swear? Make mistakes? Speak before thinking?

Can a professional wear their heart on their sleeve? Does a pro sell ice to Eskimos?  Will a pro always take the easy money?  Will you take a reward before or after you provide your service?

Me and my opinion…

I am
on Facebook and don’t have a professional site separate from my business
site.  If you want to know me you are
free to check me out personally and ‘professionally’.

For
me, it’s all the same package.

I
love it that way. Probably costs me some customers. Might cost me some money -
but I am pretty sure I would not want those customers and business.  They would never be in a mutually beneficial
relationship with me, my company and my product anyways.

I
tell everyone NOT to be like me, because we would have a whole bunch of people
doing things the way society told us not to do it.  But what if everyone had a goal of doing the
right thing always? What if the goal was in the best interest of others and the
reward followed? Pay AFTER you eat whatever you think its worth? What if these thinkers were only rewarded
after the sale? Is that professional?

How
do you feel?

Smile!

The dentist that almost shot himself.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:01 am

The only guy I have to get better than is who I am right now…Competition should not mean beating anyone other than yourself, the world would be a better place for it!

Many years ago my father walked into an office at exactly the right/wrong time.

The staff were in a panic because the doctor had walked in with a shot gun in hand and went to his office and locked the door threatening to end it all.

They had phoned police, but didn’t know what to do while waiting.  They had tried to convince the doctor to come out, that life was worth living. They asked my Dad to help.

My Dad knew this doctor to be unstable, but proceeded to knock on the door anyways.

When the door opened a crazed doctor came out waving the gun telling my father to get the “f^]% out of his office and leave him alone”.  My father did not panic, and asked the doc what had happened, could he help? He was scared, but really didn’t know what else to say to a guy with a gun in his hand.

It seems this event was spurred on by personal issues, and the doctor needed a friend.   He broke down and passed the unloaded gun to my father and went back to his office and locked the door….

The police came and finally talked the doc out of the office.

There are many stories that come over a lifetime in this business, I am glad my Dad passed this one along to me.  I’m never quite sure how much to believe…but I have had a personal experience of a dentist friend who hung themselves in their office many years ago.  This was a guy that many people really liked, and never saw this coming.

I understand the stress my friends are under, but I have been fortunate enough to see  more happy and satisfied dentists than not.  This business can be amazing with the right attitude.

I am someone who believes in finding a way to do something you love, and never work a day in your life.  There have been several friends that I have encouraged to leave this business who have found way happier lives.  I believe we all owe it to ourselves to persue happiness first, and I am happy to have inspired them!

I hope you have found that path that brings you to…..

Thank God people are different!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:59 pm

A Man who does not think for themselves does not think at all!!

Without
people that think different,  we wouldn’t
have ever progressed.

I am
thankful for the guy that invented the wheel – he started something, shipped it and the world is a better place for it!

Thank
you
for engineers who help us build amazing machines.

Thank
you
for inventors that bring to life products that make our lives better.

Thank
you
for leaders that aren’t afraid to take a stand for what is right.

Thank
you
for people who give more than they get.

Are
the people we want to be like really those who have accumulated wealth on the
backs of others…do we want to be rich, or happy. Does rich make happy? Does
fame make happy?

The
things that really seem to make us most proud are achievements.  Things that help other people and gain a
following.

Lets’ think different.  Lets’ use our potential and be everything we were meant to be. Let’s teach our kids to NOT think like others.  Let’s ENCOURAGE people who try to break the boundaries and don’t have limits.

What if today everyone was only doing “it” for others, and not for themselves? What would happen to the world?

Some rambling thoughts brought to you with a….

The case of the missing patient!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:23 pm

Seventy percent of success in life is showing up.

~Woody Allen

I
have heard this disturbing story several times over the years I have been a
consultant.  Staff who ‘fill in’ days
with patient names – but never bother to notify the patient of the patient!

Why
would a staff member do this?  Obviously,
there is an issue! Here are the reasons some staff have done this – and ways to
improve your no shows.

I
will start with a solution – it’s called DemandForce.  It’s an electronic way to confirm your
patients and keep those chairs filled. If you haven’t heard of this yet….you
will!

Why
do patients no show, and why do staff book patients that don’t show up?

I
have found a lack of education is the main reason for patients not
showing.  First, the patient does not
understand the value of the treatment being offered.  It may not seem worthwhile to you – but great
patient communication is key to having your patients show up!

Often
the lessons learned by patients comes from painful experience.  A good periodontal education program is key to
gaining a successful practice.  Because
patients DON’T want emergency repairs and pain.
They are motivated to maintain a healthy relationship with you, but
often dentists only tell them they need to come in to have their ‘regular oil
changes’ – they don’t show them or tell them why.

You
think people just trust your expert opinion? Do you just go to any store and buy
what the salesman hands to you? Even if it’s your favourite store in the world?
Or do you go in to your favourite store in the world because they take the time
to teach you, to help you understand? Every person with something to promote already knows how great their own product is and how much it will benefit their customer – but how they educate their consumer is definitely related to their level of success…..

What
tools can you use?
You aren’t stupid…you know the answers! The tools that
most every successful dentist has incorporated in one form or another to help
educated their patients.

About
a Billion dollars of dentistry
performed by my customers is the experience I bring to the table.  The good ones make a very nice living
educating their patients.

It
starts with a good perio program.

Incorporate tools like intraoral camera and digital X-ray.  Install “Patient education
centers
” in the operatories where images can be shown and uses tools like patient
education to help our customers understand our services.

When
you start educating your patients, they will not want to miss their
appointments!

Use DemandForce.

Electronic
confirmations

Patient
satisfaction forms

Google
reviews

Patient
newsletters that deliver quantifiable results

Promotions

Social
Media marketing

Appointments
via Facebook

Help
your patients get the most out of every experience with your office. From the
moment they call and you always answer the phone with an educated staff member
who can answer their questions and book the appointments appropriately.

Help
them in the perio program – give them the education and understanding on how to
keep their teeth for a lifetime. Probe those pockets, offer solutions like
perio laser solutions, demineralization, fluorides, arestin. How them and make
sure you have available the power brushes, the flossers, the bad breath
products, dry mouth products.  Educated
them.

Help
them understand your treatment plans. Show them pictures, X-rays, animations
explaining the procedures….

You
will start to notice that there are more patients loaned up than missing….

Are you the best in the world?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:07 am

Don’t let people drive you crazy when you know it’s in walking distance.

Sometimes when I am feeling down, I have a self motivating talk, these are the things that matter to me – maybe this is something that can help you too…

I AM
the best in the world at what I do, on my terms and in the eyes of the people I
care about the most. I work hard to be the best – but that never stops me from trying to be even better no matter what level I am at. Continuous improvement is what I am all about.

Only I set
goals for myself, for my life and the people who matter to me.

I can not let public opinion matter, especially if it makes me feel bad or think
too much.  I am who I am and I am proud
of it. I DONT want to be like anyone else. When people doubt me, and try to tell me I am crazy – I KNOW I am doing something worthwhile!!

Those who know me,  understand that I respect every individual for being just that.  I love people who are real, and care about
friends through thick and thin. A family and a real friend is proud of every
family member
….and they say it out loud, stand by it, tell other people about
it.

Even
when and maybe especially when they color outside the lines….

because that’s when they may need it the most.

I am
a person who will not be afraid to open new doors, or to set new boundaries. I WILL NOT and DO NOT want
to be painted with the same brush as any other person.  I hope when people remember me, that I made a difference in this world. I hope I motivated someone to be brave. To be everything they owe to the world. To use their talent. To be real.

I know its the best people in the world that make people…..

Smile!
