How Facebook may create a better everything.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:40 pm

When you go in search of honey you must expect to be stung by bees.

~Joseph Joubert

Why
not carve out the life you always wanted?

If
you start to realize the benefit of sharing a some information that really only
matters to marketers…you may start today.

There
has been much fear mongering about privacy on Facebook – but the acts are the
benefits for most people may out weight the risks!

Most
of the information you share will help marketers find you.  What is so wrong I’d you tell people you like
to fish…and next time you start looking for fishing accessories on google -
every search is very relevant. Even more so because this new world of smart
intelligence understands where in the world you live, what your friends prefer
and are likely to recommend, and what types of stores exactly that you may
prefer.

Now
apply the same idea to EVERYTHING that you like to do…eat? Cook? Read?
Travel? Save money? Watch TV or a Movie? Drive fast cars? Get the latest
fashion, or collect some odd curiosity….this is your new life in the socially
connected world.

What
we DO worry about sharing are the things we would likely not put out there
anyways!

Think
about it….would you tell all your friends how much you make, that you and
your spouse do ‘It’ twice a day and you took pictures you want everyone to see?

The
privacy we want to keep is up to us.  I
understand the fear of ‘saying’ something you didn’t mean….hell I do it ALL
the time. But I trust the people I care about now and in the future know me,
trust me and understand that I am like most other people….human and bound to
make innocent mistakes.

So
ya….I have said some things about my family and work and people in public
that I regret…but it’s out there and instead of saying it behind people’s
backs I have learned to be a better person.

The benefits
of this socially connected world are too many, and the true worrisome privacy
issues to me in the future are those who have something to hide…

This
makes me think…what will the future look like for a next generation
politician, business owner, corporate leaders, leaders of state and church….

LogiBloc….a common sense product!

Vision without action is a dream.
Action without Vision is a nightmare.
~Japanese Proverb

Logibloc – a product you won’t want to be without!

There are products that I sometimes just send my customers without them asking.  I do this when I KNOW it is something they will appreciate – and this is one of them!

The Company name is “Common Sense Dental” and the products they carry are very cool.  This one in particular will replace all your current mouth props the moment you try them.

First – it was a good idea to make them color coded – instead of the black or tan props you use now and have to watch closely to make sure you get the right size…..

Second – they come in four sizes – perfect for almost any occasion!

Third – and most important – they allow for unrestricted visual and physical access while you are working!!

There are tons of hidden gems – products that can make your every day life easier! DMDrep is happy to have shared dozens and would love to hear from you!!

What product would you say has made your day to day life easier in your practice?

3 minute posterior restorations? What has Kerr done?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:53 pm

Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.

~Steve Jobs

You know me….I am not willing to promote or endorse a product until it has tons of independent backing and street credibility.  And I stand by my ideals.

At the same time, its’ still worth keeping an eye on upcoming products and technology! Kerr has come out with an interesting product, and it shows promise.

The product is called Sonic Fil, and I won’t pretend to know a lot about it. Rather, I will re-publish some of the highlights in a recent email I received from the manufacturer asking me to mention the product (and I do this for free by the way!)

Here is what I am excited about…

#1 – The product can be used in a single, bulk fill motion. No separate product needed to finish like you might need with Surefil (a product I will still continue to promote because it now meets my criteria).  This is a definite TIMEfactors product!

#2 – From Placement to finished on restorations up to 5mm!

#3 – The sonic vibrations make the product ‘flow’ which allows for better adaptation – once the sonic vibrations are finished, the product returns to a more ‘sculptable’ state! Very cool! So you basically sonic fill your box, and once you stop the sonic – take our your ‘artists tools’ to create that beautiful restoration you are capable of!

With independent 3rd party studies available from day one, this product will get a single thumbs up from DMDrep. In my opinion, this is worth a limited trial in any clinic doing posterior restorations. I would recommend a limited trial with patients you bring in for regular visits (6 month recalls). I don’t think this product will take very long to gain street credibility – its’ revolutionary!

Hu-Freidy gets into crowns, great to see competition here!

But what minutes!  Count them by sensation, and not by calendars, and each moment is a day!
~Benjamin Disraeli

Hu-Friedy is already known as a quality leader when it comes to instruments – and I was really happy to come across the latest announcement on their website – stainless pedo crowns.

This is an area that is currently dominated by 3M – with few choices from the distribution end.  Its’ great to see a company that pays great attention to detail and quality like Hu-Freidy get into this business!

Check it out at www.Hu-Freidy.com

Tweak that lemonade…..

Hands….head….or
heart?

He who works
with his hands is a laborer

He who works
with his head is a craftsman

He who works
with his hands, his head, his heart is…

An artist…

St. Francis
of Assisi

How
you approach life and your passion can really show in the results! Have you ever
noticed that some people have all the luck, and others get no breaks?

I
sincerely believe this has a lot to do with attitude!

I
could look at my life from many different perspectives, and often I could have
just given up.

I
grew up in a home with a single mom who worked very hard to make end meet.  Some people could look at this and say
“I didn’t have the opportunities that other kids had”. I look at this
and think how lucky I was to realize the value of a dollar, how to save money
and what was really most important.

My life meant moving a lot. I changed schools and friends at least ten times
during my school years.  Some people
might look and say that instability caused them to not trust anyone, to be
skeptical, they themselves may never settle down.

It’s
tough to make new friends when you move….you are always the outsider. Or in
my case I had the opportunity to make a lot of new friends, had adventure and
got to experience things many children will never have a chance to experience.

So
many talented people I know take the lemon that life has given them…try to make
lemonade, find out it is sour and give upon ever trying again.

The
formula for success seems to be a matter of taste. Finding out where the sugar
is hidden, tweaking that lemonade formula and then finding a way to help others
drink is a sure fire way to get the most out of life.

A one way conversation is boring and crappy Social Media

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:55 pm

Friendship isn’t a big thing – its’ a million little things…

Social
media for most people is about having a relationship. They add real
friends and family members that they care about to Facebook.  When they ‘like’ a business, celebrity, or
‘thing’ – (such as a dentist) they ‘like’ it for a reason, and the reason
usually isn’t to help the business, it’s usually to help themselves.

By
‘liking’ or ‘sharing’ we are usually trying to help our friends discover
something they may not have know or experienced….when we tell our friends, it
has to be worth OUR while and OUR reputation.
We LIKE it when something we SHARE helps out friends or family, it makes
us feel good!

Think about this when your are
creating your social media ‘strategy’.

When
you like something, are you putting in the effort to spread the word if the
service is not really worth talking about? Would you really care about the
content this business (you) is providing – enough to tell your friends.

The
content has to be worth caring about and worth spreading. And most of what I
see right now on Facebook is not worth telling my friends about!

Most of what I find can be found on
the Internet already, it’s stale.

Corporations
spreading the word all about how great they are because they gave something to
a charity…it’s already in the media, already on the front page of their
website….so why do they need to say it again in their social media campaign?
This is the type of social media that will spread on it’s own if the ‘fans’
actually care.

The
business that uses social media as a one way message outlet doesn’t understand
what this new world is all about.

It’s
not really about marketing.

Instead
it’s a way to strengthen the relationships we have with people who care enough
to support us.

It’s
a way for your customers to have an outlet when they care enough to tell you
what you might be doing wrong….and also a place to tell you when you are
doing good!

Are
you listening, or are you doing all the talking?

Are
you asking questions, or just delivering messages?

This is
a opportunity to actually customize your company and marketing to be highly
effective.  If your social media strategy
is working, you will notice the results in ‘shares’ and ‘likes’

It’s
really not all that hard!!!

Put
your human hat on! Be real….think about what kinds of things you like, what
you would tell your friends about, what kinda of things you would tell the
companies that you like….

That’s
what social media is all about.

It’s
not scary, it’s contagious – like a….

Its just business….I call B*#$S*&!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:04 pm
Sometimes it is the person closest to us who must travel the furthest distance to be our friend.
~Robert Brault

Seth Godin said…

“It’s just life.”

Anyone who is willing to lie to you, cheat you or treat you with disrespect because it’s just business is doing more damage to herself than to you.

Work takes too much time and too much emotion for it to be just work. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t want to spend time or money with anyone who has this particular attitude disfunction.”

Our business is about personal relationships. Trust. Loyalty.

Many people keep telling me not to take it so personal when someone rejects my ‘treatment plan’.  But its’ hard to not take it personal when you are so passionate about what you do…when you truly do it for what you believe in. Which is to say – the people you are trying to help.

I still cry when I am rejected. I am not really sad about the people that I have not been accepted, I am mostly sad that the people I am trying to help cannot trust me enough to take a chance.

“You can’t please everyone” is another saying that I am trying to learn to better adopt. Its’ hard, because I am one of those people who grew up HAVING to please everyone. Its’ a symptom of moving around so much as a kid. Having to make new friends and fit in every 6 months.  Getting the crap beat out of me, then having the same kids actually become lasting friends….it takes a lot of time and patience.

Learning to let go is something that has helped my life become happier. Writing helps too.  The only way people will get to know what I am all about is from a reputation that I am working hard to build. It has to be public. It has to be well known if I am to be accepted, referred, and defended by my true friends.

The people who don’t use excuses like “Its’ just business…because its’ not, its’ just human relationships, its’ just trust, its’ just love, its’ just loyalty, its’ just……a…..

The Spit Test.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:50 am

The road to success is dotted with many tempting parking spaces.

How we help our patients by testing their spit!

http://www.gcamerica.com/products/preventive/Saliva_Check_BUFFER/index.php

Little Suzie who tries so hard to be good…she flosses….she
brushes twice a day, doc starts her on a fluoride program….and she still gets
cavities.

Little Suzies brother Johnny comes in and always seems to find a way
to not floss, not brush properly, he always has plaque all over his teeth when
he visits the dentist….but no cavities.

What is going on?

Have you measured the ph of their Saliva?

There-in lies the answer.

Bad acids erode enamel, and some patients are more prone and have
less saliva or more acidic saliva than others.

Mi paste is an amazing demineralization paste for the modern world.

A world where patients enjoy very acidic drinks like colas (2.3) how
about Gatorade? Did you know that the ‘sour candies’ that we suck on have an
acidic value close to battery acid?

How can we help patients?

Give them a proven demineralization product. A way to combat the
acids.

Give them MI paste.

I have had a lot of street success which some people call evidence
based dentistry.  My customers come back
to me again and again with success stories.

Mi paste as a demineralization product is definitely worth a look as
a way to help your patients!

Ever notice the bathroom, its’ a sure sign!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:17 pm
Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else expects of you.

Never excuse yourself.

~Henry Ward Beecher

Have you ever walked into a once thriving business that is now run down and looks more like they are going out of business?

I always notice the bathrooms first.

I usually figure the owners must have their own private bathroom – or have completely lost interest in what made them successful to begin with.  All that from the state of a bathroom!

So I was thinking today how many small business owners start out with a great idea, a fantastic service…and then forget about the relationship they developed with their customers. The people who pay the bills.

Just like any relationship – you must care enough first and foremost.  If you lose your passion for what you are doing, it may be time to move on. If you can’t commit to giving it 100% and enjoy what you are doing, someone else might just come along and appreciate what you have done enough to put you out of business!!

I would bet when the small business owner first started – they personally handled most issues.  They were the person making sure that small details that customers appreciated most were taken care of.  When the business started to prosper and grow – they likely hired some excellent staff.  The owner would never compromise on the success of their business by hiring people who were not as passionate as they were.

The owner likely put in years and hundred of hours of unpaid overtime – and they either kept growing more passionate about what they were doing or may have realized the business was more than they had imagined.

Perhaps the ‘margins’ were not what they expected and they ended up being a slave to the business and customers.  They grew to resent how much they put in and how little they got out of it.

Instead of a passionate pursuit to become something more and different – they became ‘stuck’ in a bad relationship and felt there was no way out…..and many businesses show this in their bathrooms…in their choice of staff…in the presentation of the product…in the outdated decor…in so many ways!

Why did the owner lose the passion? How can they get that sense of pride back in their business?

I believe first in a good business plan which includes regular leasehold improvements, equipment improvements….. Constant improvement. Adding new and exciting things to ‘the menu‘ if you will. Keep the passion alive by creating new opportunities.

We all want new and exciting!

If you keep pursuing the same old same old – you soon end up with the same old same old day in and day out….and the bathroom starts to show it.

If you feel stuck – go out and learn something new about your business. Find another successful business owner like yourself and see what they have done to bring back that passion you used to have….invest in yourself again and start the love affair all over…

CRA Best Products of 2010, the DMDrep review Part 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:50 pm

If at first you don’t succeed, do it like your mother told you!

I thought this was going to be a short little blog – but this is a huge amount of work! This is continued from yesterdays blog review of products…

Hemostasis
Where is Spongostan on this list. Everybody here uses it, has long term EBD…I would look forward to a few of my customers trying OraPlug that is on the CRA list. Maybe its’ a Canadian thing again, eh?

Cements
Tempbond is on the list as a classic/control and is still a top product here. I also recommend Tempbond Clear and Tempbond Uni-dose. A couple of products every office could use, and your patients who tend to pop off provisionals!

Maxcem is one of my top selling and top rated cements – agree with CRA
RelyX Unicem - no matter the delivery system another excellent product.

RMI Cements
Fujicem Automix is my most popular RMI with many years of street credibility
RelyX luting Plus is my second most popular I agree with CRA

Finishers/Polishers for Ceramics
Axis Ceraglaze and Brasseler Dialite are pretty much equal in my opinion – and every office should have one of the two kits!

Hemostasis
Not sure why Expasyl didn’t make this list – but this is far and away my top pick. Coming on strong is Premier Traxodent.

Impression Materials
Kromopan Alginate didn’t make the list and is my most popular alginate – very inexpensive and very good.

Aquasil Ultra, Impregum I agree with CRA but I would also add Kerr Take 1 and Sultan Genie to the list of VPS.

Occlusion
Accufilm II is an excellent and highly accurate marking material
Mynol Thin Blue is still my most popular, proven product that didn’t make the CRA list.

Posts
Whaledent Parapost Plus Taper Lux is still my most popular and always has been.

Provisional Materials
I like the 3 picks on the CRA list – Integrity, Luxatemp and Protemp Plus all get high marks in my book – but the product I REALLY like is not on the list, and is just simply less expensive and dominates my territory for many years now – VOCO Structur 2 SC - Best value in my books.

Silane Primer/Ceramic Conditoners
My pick is not on the list – its’ the best value product made by Pulpdent  - forget all the steps and just pick up one of these kits instead…Pulpdent Embrace Wetbond PFM repair kit
Radiology
Rinn XCP-ORA is pretty cool, and I will agree with CRA on this one although it is relatively new and I don’t have a lot of street experience on this one – I would still recommend based on the idea alone.

Bases Liners
I like the tried and true Vitrebond Plus, and especially since they came out with the new dispensing methode. One product I really like that is not on the list is Pulpdent Limelite - http://www.pulpdent.com/products/view/144 and I do agree with the Ultra Blend Plus pick as well.

Finishers/Polishers for Composites.
I agree with the CRA picks here
- AstroPol by Ivoclar, Super Snap by Shofu and UltraGloss by Axis. My customers still by and large prefer the 3M sof-lex system and the Dentpsly Enhance and Pogo systems, and I won’t argue with that success!

Matrices Wedges
The Composi-tight 3D system is one of the products I believe EVERY office should use. The Triodent V3 Ring system also made the list – and is a great alternative to the Garrison system
As a matter of fact – I circled every recommendation on the CRA list! Blue View Cervical Matrices, Blue View Grip Strips and the Slick Bands – all winners in the DMDrep TIMEfactors book!

Moisture Control and Isolation
Safegauze Green sponges made the list – but they would not have made mine. My customers still prefer traditional Safegauze and Henry Schein brand.
Not mentioned are Microcopy Neo-Dry which I really like. Moisture Control is critical and you want to do this asap. This is it. TIMEfactors in play here too!
How about Isolite? Surprising this wasn’t here yet either. An amazing product that I don’t sell. Check out The Dental Warrior review!
Gems a summary.

The products I believe every office should consider. Fan Favorites.

Get rid of that bulky old mouth prop and get Logibloc!
Mirrors have finally gone High Definition! Check out Zirc Crystal Mirror
http://www.zirc.com/eshop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=50Z371S-X
MI Paste Remineralization

There are dozens more – but I will save that for another day!
